First founded in San Francisco in 2009, Bicycle Coffee stands out with its unique approach to in-house roasting and—notably—delivering all wholesale and retail deliveries by bike. In the intervening years, the company has since shifted its headquarters and roastery to Oakland and has opened up two other locations in Los Angeles and Tokyo.

Unlike many local rivals, Bicycle has kept its staple coffee beans and roasts simple: medium roast, dark roast, and the occasional limited release special roasts. While other Bay Area roasters have either catered to niche audiences with specialty beans or to blue collar loyalists with traditional beans, Bicycle has found a following among the climate conscious who appreciate simple, straightforward—and all-around excellent—coffee.
